I’m broadly interested in how biological bodies embody computation and am particularly interested in behavioral complexity and computational architecture in non-neuronal multicellular systems, especially in the context of what they might tell us about the phylogenetic continuity of biological computation. Currently, my work focuses on investigating how Trichoplax adhaerens – a size-tunable multicellular organism that doesn’t have neurons, muscles, or orientation – senses and processes external stimuli.
