I am interested in microscale devices for solving diagnostic problems in resource-limited conditions. My research uses magnetic levitation as an inexpensive, compact, and rapid technique for analyzing malaria-infected blood samples. The aim is to leverage this biophysical cell separation method to detect and monitor drug response in resource-limited settings.  I had the amazing opportunity to travel to eastern Uganda in Summer 2019 to validate these results with blood samples from malaria patients and healthy subjects, in realistic field settings.
