My research leverages the injectable polymer-nanoparticle (PNP) hydrogel platform developed in the Appel lab to improve drug delivery for multiple applications. One project involves long term delivery of small molecule drugs to the eye to reduce patient burden and improve compliance compared to current eyedrop-based therapies. Another application is the co-delivery of adjuvants and cancer therapies to improve existing treatments by introducing novel adjuvant combinations, reducing systemic toxicity, and enhancing local immune activity. I am excited by the capacity of our PNP hydrogel to deliver physiochemically diverse cargo and hopeful that its application in the ocular and cancer spaces will result in improved therapies.
