My research project involves characterizing the dynamics of gene and chromatin regulation in mammalian cells. I have engineered a dual reporter system where I can manipulate the epigenetic state and observe the spreading of silencing and reactivation between two genes. I use both flow cytometry and time-lapse movies to get single-cell resolution data. This research aims to use synthetic biology approaches to determine what factors control the dynamical spreading of silencing and reactivation.
